Concrete Bursting
Leading Nationwide Diamond Drilling and Controlled Demolition Contractor Based in London
Concrete bursting is a quiet, safe and efficient method of demolishing or weakening large concrete, stone, block or brick structures. Concrete bursting is a silent demolition method. The method utilises hydraulic bursters (vibration-free machines which use hydraulic pressure to demolish structures).

What is Concrete Bursting?
The first step in the concrete bursting process is pre-drilling holes to create weak points for the hydraulic burster heads to be inserted. Factors such as; the size of the structure, type of structure, thickness and material etc dictate the number and size of holes to be drilled.
The bursters have heads which expand hydraulically in the pre-drilled holes causing splits and cracks. The heads are pressurized so that they can expand and fracture the concrete/structure into manageable pieces. Hydraulic bursters have heads with different diameters. Typical hydraulic bursters produce 100 to 250 tons of pressure. Large-sized bursting heads have a higher bursting capacity. For instance, a 100mm head has a bursting capacity of approximately 108 tonnes whilst a 200mm head has a bursting capacity of approximately 250 tonnes.
MTF Diamond Drilling and Controlled Demolition Ltd can achieve a bursting capacity of up to 2000 tonnes using multiple hydraulic burster heads. Once fractures have been created in the structure, the concrete is removed. The main idea behind concrete bursting is to burst large concrete structures into smaller pieces which are easier to remove.

When to Use Concrete Bursting
Concrete bursting is ideal for removing larger concrete structures. The method is best suited for concrete removal applications where precision, safety and noise control is required. As a result, concrete bursting is ideal for environmentally sensitive projects.
The Benefits of Concrete Bursting:
Efficiency
Concrete bursting is effective for demolishing structures where environmental noise and vibration restrictions apply.
Noise-Free
Conventional concrete demolition methods are usually unfavourable because of the noise and dust they produce. Concrete bursting is virtually a silent concrete demolition method. This makes concrete bursting an ideal demolition method in areas which have noise restrictions.
Environmentally Friendly
Besides being noise-free, concrete bursting is also dust-free making it an environmentally friendly demolition method.
Suitable for Restricted Areas
Being a non-percussive concrete demolition method, concrete bursting is perfect for restricted spaces as hydraulic bursters are compact and highly mobile.
Health & Safety
Concrete bursting is a non-explosive non-vibration method of weakening and fracturing structures. The method also completely removes the risk of HAVS. Other benefits are that concrete bursting doesn’t cause any noise and is environmentally friendly. The method can easily qualify as the safest concrete demolition method within the industry today.
